2015 Kawasaki Teryx

The head of the Kawasaki quad lineup is the aptly named Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS. The rowdy V-twin powerplant makes big power. It isn't a one-trick pony, though. The Kawasaki combines the power with a CVT; a sealed, oil-bath, multi-plate rear brake; and Kawasaki's own version of diff-lock. It wraps everything up in a great look with stylish bodywork, clean graphics and cast-aluminum wheels. The 750 starts at $8999, and Timberline Green is the new color for the base model. Joining the 750 in what Kawasaki calls the "sport utility" arena is the 2WD Brute Force 300. As far as sport quads go, the KFX50 and KFX90 are it for now.

The obvious player missing from the line is the KFX450. It will not be a 2015 model, but Kawasaki says that dealers have a supply of 2014 units for sale. The sport model has come and gone before, so hopefully it will return with updates.

TERYX 800
On the UTV side of the Kawasaki coin is the Teryx line. It starts with the black standard Teryx at $12,999. There are no upgrades for 2015, but that is understandable considering the machines had a strong makeover in 2014 that included more displacement and upgraded Fox suspension.

Kawasaki's Teryx Realtree
Xtra Green Camo model has LED headlights and a top for $14,299. There is no performance advantage to the next step up to the Teryx LE, but the look is like a small 4×4 sports car. Each LE has special LE model upgrades, including LED headlights, steel brush guard, cast-aluminum wheels, cab roof/sun top, premium bodywork featuring automotive-quality paint, suspension arms and springs color-matched to the bodywork and three-tone bucket seat covers for $14,999. The Teryx4 comes in the same three trim levels, starting with the Teryx4 at $15,799, the Teryx4 Realtree Xtra Green Camo runs for $16,299, and the Teryx4 LE is $16,999.

BRUTE FORCE 750 4X4i
The heart of the 750 is the 90-degree V-twin engine that breathes through twin 36mm Mikuni throttle bodies. The power reaches through a CVT with high and low range. The suspension is fully independent front and rear. In addition to the rider, it will haul 242 pounds and tow 1250 pounds. It definitely has the goods for work or play. The 4x4i comes in Timberline Green, but the 4x4i Power Steering has camo, black and white for color choices. Naturally, camo runs for a bit more money.

BRUTE FORCE 300
The Brute Force 300 is perhaps not so deserving of the "Brute Force" name, but for a quad in this economy class, the engine is well above the usual air-cooled designs. It is carbureted, but there is electric starting with a recoil backup, a two-speed auto with reverse, full suspension and three disc brakes. The 300 hauls 110 pounds and tows 500. It is available in colors Kawasaki calls Super Black or Bright White for $4299.

KFX50 AND KFX90

Kawasaki has had immense success with these kids' quads. Both are essentially the same basic machine. Both are powered by carbureted, electric-start , four-stroke engines with continuously variable transmissions. Both feature just under 3 inches of front- and rear-wheel travel and have a single rear disc and dual front drum brakes. The key differences are the bore and stroke and the tire and wheel combo. The KFX50 wheels/tires are 16×8-7s all the way around, while the KFX90 has 18×7-8s in front and 18×9-8s in the rear. Both are loaded with safety features like throttle limiters. The 50 is $1999 and the 90 is $2799.

MULE PRO-FXT

The Mule used to be a sporty UTV, since it was the only UTV. Since then it has been relegated to all work and no fun. That changes for 2015 with the Mule PRO-FXT that mixes transformable seating for six with Teryx-like styling and doors and a torquey, new, 812cc, three-cylinder engine and work-tuned CVT. The base model is $13,999, and both the camo and LE versions are $15,599.
