Dwayne Johnson won't be in F9, but there will be one more movie to wrap up the franchise. So will Luke Hobbs make one more appearance? Director Justin Lin addressed this big question.

Luke Hobbs' first appearance was in Fast Five. He hunted down Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker) for their crimes. He was unsuccessful and later started working with them to catch bigger criminals.

His last appearance in the movie was The Fate of the Furious. He then got a spinoff called Hobbs & Shaw, which followed Hobbs going on a mission with Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham).

The 2019 movie caused some drama between the movie stars of the franchise. Tyrese Gibson publicly spoke out against it.

"I'm sorry to announce that if Dewayne is in Fast9 there will no more Roman Peirce – You mess with family and my daughters survival I mess with yours……… close your eyes dude you're a 'Clown'…… #CandyA**B*tchMade," read part of Gibson's message on Instagram, according to E! Online.

Johnson moved forward with the movie anyway and Gibson kept his role. He later claimed he made up with Johnson.

"Me and The Rock peaced up, by the way. We talked for like four hours about three weeks ago," he said on Stir Crazy with Josh Horowitz. "It was great."

Could Dwayne Johnson return for the last 'Fast & Furious' movie?

The future of Hobbs hasn't been revealed. There hasn't been any news on whether there will be a sequel to the spinoff. Will he return to help wrap up the main franchise? Director Justin Lin hinted that it's a possibility on Cinema Blend's podcast, ReelBlend.

"So many of the conversations I have is about characters that are not even in there, but are still, obviously, they are living and breathing in this universe," he said. "On this one, when I came back, I was thinking a lot about Hobbs and Shaw, and all of the other characters. I never think of them as being gone, for sure."

That does leave the door open for the agent to return. But fans will still have to wait for a real announcement.

There is also a question of whether the spinoff will get a sequel. Unfortunately, there is a reason why a second movie isn't moving forward yet.

"Everybody's really busy on that particular franchise," producer Kelly McCormick told Collider. "I mean, who's busier than Dwayne Johnson? And, he's critical to the project. We're just waiting to hear, to be honest."

It looks like the door is left open for Johnson's character in multiple ways. However, since he's busy with multiple franchises, it might take more time before his return.
