  1. Heya guys,

I'm in the mood for a change of car, purely as my current one has just literally "scrapped" through its MOT and she won't survive the next one as she's almost 13 years old :( Although I've loved her, Hyundai Coupe Gen 3 2.0, it's time for a change for more power and more fun.

The mechanic that I use, lovely guy, has recommended a Subaru Impreza to me but I'm honestly boggled by what I'm looking at. I've been looking primarily at the following two which have peaked my interest:

The first one definitely as its the S, so more power rather than the standard one in the second link. However, I'm starting to think that I should head straight for the STi. I've done a search on here so read all the stories about the 2.5's being like chocolate (lovely way of explaining it :D ), P1's killing themselves and the bugeyes having a limited upgrade path (not really worried about that).

    But then found these:

Just really wanted to get some thoughts. Is it better to stay away from anything that's not the STi even though the WRX S has just as much power?

I've got a budget of approximately 8-9k to play with and I'm not concerned about running costs as I know that it's a performance car.

    Cheers

  2. Are you sure the first one is an S ? Looks like a cooking model WRX to me.I had a 10 plate WRX for about 18 months, bought it from new.
    Things that i remember..

    Not THAT fast
    Expensive to tax
Not that flash on fuel (28-29mpg)
Very soft suspension, but was very comfy over bumpy b roads.Did not crash at all.

If you want anymore info, just shoot away.

  3. Just to add. The 2.5 is not the strongest engine about, especially in the STI. Have a look about on google about them. There have been/are a lot of STI's which have gone pop.
  4. JDM 2.0l STI FTW. ;)
  5. I did look at that one and it seems like an absolute bargin considering the amount of work that has been done on it! :D Guess I was just trying to stay away from the highly modded version as they're more work but considering that one should have all the inherent faults sorted, I'm going to give it a serious look
  6. I'd go straight for an STi, it's not just the power you gain but a whole lot else. Far better 6 speed gearbox, way better brembo brakes which don't seize up all the time, stronger engines which can take more power.

I'd suggest if you can afford it/find one to get one of the last of the UK 2.0 cars as they're generally considered the 'one to have' as it has the bulletproof 2.0 engine but gains DCCD to control to torque split between the front of back which makes quite a lot of difference over the earlier cars.

I've been half thinking of selling mine for a while now but just can't decide to go through with it or not :( I don't drive it a whole lot so it makes sense to get rid and get something nicer to replace my daily, but whenever i drive it and hit boost i can't imagine not having that power in my life! They're also very cheap to run apart from the petrol costs.

This was my advert from a bit ago to give you some context http://www.scoobynet.com/subaru-444/1009371-2005-widetrack-blobeye-subaru-impreza-sti.html

  7. I really like the 08+ hatchback of these, they were dropping in price but now seem to have gone up over the last year!
  8. Feel free to give me a shout via PM on scoobynet if you want a chat about anything about them, i may even be convinced to part with it!
  9. My Scooby is probably by favourite car out of various cars i've driven. I haven't driven anything more fun to consider changing it. The one to get is the Widetrack blob STi, I've had two of them:)

Let me know if you have any specific questions

  10. Yep, kept standard and well serviced. Lovely.
  11. Another absolutely gorgeous example gurdas! Looks absolutely stunning in black and that's what I'd normally go for but having seen the silver versions, they look just as good :) And totally different to the common blue/gold ;)

Will definitely drop you and sovietspybob messages as need to get some idea of things to look for :D

S2KIP: I used to be, and still am, a massive Evo head but the pure cost of the X which is what I'd want is pushing me towards the Scooby.

    There is only one : 22B !

No seriously, My wee bro just got a 2000 RA Lightweight with factory shorter ratios and other lightweight parts. Classic Impreza looks and a solid engine

  13. STI over WRX everyday of the week.

It's a far better package. Personally I'd avoid the 2.5.

  14. I looked at the WRX & WRX S hatch before I got the MPS.

The STI is just so much more worth the additional outlay as you get:

    - wide body
    - additional bodykit, spoiler, lips etc
    - brembo brakes
    - 6 speed gearbox
    - rear differential
    - DCCD (can change the power spilt between front/rear)
    - Nicer interior
    - More power

Insurance is a big hike however.
